Inflow conditions for the large eddy simulation of turbulent boundary layers: A dynamic recycling procedure

چکیده
The simulation of turbulent boundary layers requires quite detailed inflow information since the resolved flow is unsteady and three-dimensional. Rather than simulating laminar and transitional regions arising near a leading edge, it is often more computationally efficient to formulate a fully turbulent inflow condition. To date, three types of methods for creating appropriate inflow conditions have been suggested: the random fluctuation method (Rai and Moin [1]), the matching database method (Schlüter et al.[2]), and the recycling and rescaling method (Spalart [3] and Lund et al. [4]). The classification of ∗ Corresponding author Email address: [email protected] (Kunlun Liu).

Assessment of inflow boundary conditions for compressible turbulent boundary layers
A description of different inflow methodologies for turbulent boundary layers, including validity and limitations, is presented. We show that the use of genuine periodic boundary conditions, in which no alteration of the governing equations is made, results in growing mean flow and decaying turbulence. Premises under which the usage is valid are presented and explained, and comparisons with the...
متن کاملLarge-eddy simulation of turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubes submerged in an emulated atmospheric boundary-layer
Turbulent flow over an array of wall-mounted cubic obstacles has been numerically investigated using large-eddy simulation. The simulations have been performed using high-performance computations with local cluster systems. The array of cubes are fully submerged in a simulated deep rough-wall atmospheric boundary-layer with high turbulence intensity characteristics of environmental turbulent fl...
متن کاملThe numerical simulation of turbulent boundary layers and film cooling
A new finite volume algorithm has been developed to solve a variety of flows by using large eddy simulation and direct numerical simulation. This finite volume algorithm was developed using a dual time stepping approach with a preconditioning technique and a new factorization implementation. The method takes the advantage of pressure-based and density-based meth ods. Thus, it provides an effic...
متن کاملAerodynamic Noise Computation of the Flow Field around NACA 0012 Airfoil Using Large Eddy Simulation and Acoustic Analogy
The current study presents the results of the aerodynamic noise prediction of the flow field around a NACA 0012 airfoil at a chord-based Reynolds number of 100,000 and at 8.4 degree angle of attack. An incompressible Large Eddy Simulation (LES) turbulence model is applied to obtain the instantaneous turbulent flow field. The noise prediction is performed by the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-...
متن کاملA combined application of the integral wall model and the rough wall rescaling-recycling method
In this study, a recently proposed integral wall model and concurrent inflow generation technique are applied in Large-Eddy-Simulation (iWMLES) of developing turbulent boundary layer flow over cuboidal roughness. We examine the performance of this integral wall model at various Reynolds numbers. The integral wall model is based on the vonKarman-Pohlhausen integral method. With several parameter...
